Francis Baber assumed custody of the 2 youngest children, Russell and George Godby,in 1771 after John Godby, Jr, passed away in 1769. This implies that John Godby could have married a Baber. It's also interesting that Francis Baber's father probably was William Baber, the progenitor of all the Babers in Caroline County. He could have been the inspiration for William Godby's name as this was the first time a William Godby was christened (and certainly not the last).
