BAKER, John, possessed an house lot on High street in 1638. He appears to have been a man of property, his name standing against one of the 44 highest of 157 subscriptions to the compensation of Major Denison, the military leader, in 1648. He married Kathrin Perkins, May 13, 1667. He died in 1710. His widow Katherine took out letters of administration on his estate, April 14, of that year. His sons were Thomas 2, born Sept. 13, 1636, who settled in Topsfield, and married Priscilla, daughter of the Honorable Samuel Symonds, Nov. 26, 1672, and died March 18, 1718. John 2, and William 2, were probably his sons. He had a daughter Elizabeth who was married June 30, 1690, to Benjamin Dutch. In 1661, Sept. 20, he conveyed to his son Thomas 2, lands in Topsfield upon condition of the payment of ten pounds yearly to him and his wife during their lives.
He took the oath of freeman on 2 Jun 1641. He died after 28 Jun 1680 in Topsfield, Essex Co., Massachusetts. He was a grocer. He was married to Elizabeth before 1633.
