Updated September 6, 2000

These Southern Selmans descend from John Sellman of Maryland, John Battle of Virginia and North Carolina, Benjamin Brassieur of Virginia, Casper Kuhn of South Carolina, Ezekiel Johnson of Maryland, and Christopher C. Taylor, of Tennessee. This particular Southern Selman line descends from Benjamin Selman, circa 1745, Stafford County, Virginia.
The time-frame of this genealogy is from 1658 to the present. There are presently, over six hundred entries included. The original geography for Southern Selmans was Maryland, Virginia, both Carolinas, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. Today, the geography includes all of the lower forty-eight states, Europe, and Asia.

There are other Southern Selmans, who descend from Jeremiah, William, Thomas, and John Selman. They, along with their brother, Benjamin, were all sons of Benjamin Lawrence Sellman, of "Covells Folly," Anne Arundle County, Maryland.
