Notes for PETER ANDERSEN:
Peter Andersen and Marthe Maria Gregoriusdatter had a small cottage either on Onsager property or on FROYSHOV farm.Cottagers had a little land for themselves, just enough for their own food. They had to work for a lot of hours on the head-farm and could only use spare time on their own "property".They had three sons.Gulbrand and Anders emigrated to the USA.Ole stayed in Norway.Anders took the FROSHAUG name, while Gulbrand used FROSHAUG PETERSON after coming to the USA.
The name Froshaug derives from FROYs HOV, which means a place for sacrification to the goddess FROY.The area Hole/Ringerike has a lot of such offering places, and was an important part of Norway at the time of the Vikings. It is a beautiful cultured landscape, with many small farms surrounding a lake (TYRIFJORDEN).Froshaug means FROY and -hill- and the name surely has connection with the old farm FROYSHOV.
FROSHAUG can not be exactly found, at least not our ancestors home.It is two farms in Hole named FROYSHOV and FROYHOV.
