The Robert E. Self Family of North Carolina

Am working on my Self family line - trying to locate the family of my grandfather Peyton Deolphus Self born in Granville County, N.C. September 9, 1861. Date of death October 29, 1930 - buried in Oak Dale Cemetery, Spring Hope, N.C. He married Magnolia Nora Johnson born October 24, 1861. Date of death July 8, 1929, buried in Oak Dale Cemetery, Spring Hope, N.C. She was born in Missippi. Her parents were Hamil Johnson born in Nash County, N.C. date unknown and Margaret Boykin born in Wilson County, N.C., date of birth unknown According to 188 census she had a brother Robert J. Johnson born in 1864 and a sister Sarah F. Johnson born in 1871.

Children of Peyton Deolphus Self and wife Magnolia Nora Johnson were 1] Anna A. Self born August 17, 1888 2] Ethel Riley Self born December 28, 1889 - died in infancy, 3] Eunice Self born January 13, 1891, 4] Ceber Riley Self born December 5, 1891, 5] Joseph Roy Self born August 9, 1893 and 5] my father - Robert Daniel Self born March 7, 1898 - died 1967, 6] Milton Deolphus Self born April 4, 1901 and 8] Mary Arkie Self born July 27, 1903

Have not proved but have reason to think my great grandfather was Joseph Self who was killed in the Battle at Wilderness, Va. in the Civil War in 1863. He was from Granville County, N.C.
