| Our family, Senters, has been very difficult to research past our female ancestors, Rebecca and her mother Clarissa or Clarsy. The 1850's census in Clay Co KY is the first time they are mentioned and we can't find out the parents. Neither woman married as far as we can tell but we do have emancipation papers for a slave that lived with Clarissa in the 1850's. We're assuming this is why they never married, black and white marriages were forbidden at that time. We think when Clarissa died she was living with her ?sister Malinda Spencer (wife of Jourdan) in Johnson CO KY in the 1880's. We are now searching for a death certificate for Malinda to see if her parents are listed. We know she was born in NC. The surnames we are researching are: Senters, Centers, Taylor, Spencer, Broughton, Freeman. |
