| The Medlin Family has a long history in the Carolinas and especially in Union County, NC. There have been Medlins here since before the county was created in 1842 from parts of Anson and Mecklenburg Counties. Please contact me at my e-mail address if you have additions, corrections, or to discuss any of the information here. We have traced the line back to the first known Medlin of our line in America to Richard and Rachel Medlin, who arrived in 1678 aboard the ship Carolina in the Port of Charles Town, SC. Richard and Rachel were granted 200 acres of land but failed to develop it, and migrated northward to the Albemarle Region of what is now North Carolina. From there, they settled in Granville County and proceeded to raise a family. We have also found Medlins in New Kent County, VA, in Bertie, Bute, Franklin, Granville, Montgomery (now Stanly), Anson, Union Counties, NC and in Pickens County, SC. Medlins fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War, World Wars I and II, Korea, and Viet Nam. Medlins range worldwide and have been found in England, Scotland, Ireland, Spain, the Czech Republic, Australia, New Zealand, and elsewhere. There are other lines of Medlins in North Carolina, some of whom branch from the same two who began their lives here, i.e., Richard and Rachel Medlin. We are aware that a line of Medlins also descend from a Medlin who arrived at the Isle of Wight in Virginia, but know nothing about him. Most Medlin descendants today trace their ancestry from our Richard and Rachel. |
