The Skinner-Gonsoulin-Creel Family of Biloxi, MSUpdated February 23, 2003 | |
| This is an accumulation of data showing the lines of descendency from William Kenchin Skinner, who was my grandfather and Susan Lucille Gonsoulin, my grandmother; both to whom I owe more than I could ever repay. It is a work in progress and there are many questions still to be answered; but the information is published in the hopes that others will not only enjoy but hopefully contribute to its contents. Because of the generous contributions by family members who have researched various branches of our family and the many distant "cousins" who have assisted me on the internet, we have a much clearer picture of our family heritage. Thank you! Recent efforts have been directed toward establishing an authenticated copy of the LOUISIANA STATE MINERAL BOARD TRUST for the GONSOULIN HEIRS. I have recently received a copy of this trust which lists more than 2600 heirs from the original Gonsoulin line in South Louisiana. I invite any and all who are interested in our family to contact me on the web to add to this data-base or let me know of any discrepancies, errors, etc. which you can help to rectify. As you will notice the information is far from complete and many of the sources could not be confirmed....so proceed with caution. This being said, please feel free to read our family tree and do not hesitate to let me know if there are any additions or corrections which should be made. THE FIRST GONSOULIN IN SOUTH LOUISIANA The first recorded Gonsoulin in South Louisiana was Jean Francois DeBommel Gonsoulin. He was born in 1747 in Marseille, France and became a land surveyor in Louisiana while it was still owned by France. His wife, Marie DeLaGautrias, was born in New Orleans. Neither of them are of Cajun (Acadian) Ancestry. |
