Jeanne Penny Sewell
| I am researching ancestor information from the Penny/Thompson/Robinson/Alexander and Morris/Matson/Huuki families and Sewell/Johnston/Davis and the Lindenberg/Bohman familes. From my research, I found that the Penny family in Pennsylvania(can't identify for sure the county) in the late 1700's.Two Joseph Penny's began their journey. One Joseph Penny moved to Madison County, Ohio where he married Rhoda Johnson. The second Penny moved to another (unknown) town in Ohio where he married Elizabeth. There is 13 years of age difference between the two. Both men moved from Ohio to Champaign County, Illinois. They died in 1879, three weeks apart. One Joseph resided in Philo and the second one (my gggrandfather) died in St. Joseph. The most striking fact about the two men is that four of their children had identical names and were born within a year of each other. I found the Thompson family (my paternal grandmother's family) in Indiana.Frederick N. Thompson was probably born in Virginia (not sure of the county) or Maryland. The birth state varies according to census information. He married Susana Hartman(born in Pennsylvania), then moved to Ohio before moving to Marshall County, Indiana.Frederick's son, Lemuel R. Thompson and his wife Margaret "Maggie" Robinson (born in Pennyslvania) were married in Champaign county, Illinois. They moved to Humboldt, Allen County, Kansas for a few years before moving back to St. Joseph in Champaign county, Illinois. My mother's family is from Great Falls, Montana. Her father's name was Morris. The Morris's originated in England, lived in Canada, before settling in Montana. My maternal ggrandmother and ggrandfather Matson were both Finnish. They homesteaded in Montana in the early 1890's. My husband is related to the Sewell's who homesteaded in Cobb County and the Johnstons & Davis famiy who lived in Thomas County, Georgia. There are several books published with information about the Sewell and Johnston families. The prevailing theory is that Henry Sewell of England is probably an ancestor of Robert Peyton Sewell.Captain Henry Sewell's ship landed at Sewell's Point in Virginia where the Naval base outside of Norfolk is currently located. The Sewell family migrated to Annapolis, Maryland, then onto Rowan County, North Carolina, before coming to Cobb County, Georgia. My sincere thanks for all of you who shared your files.I could not have begun this search without your help!If there is no citation, I personally cannot verify the accuracy of the information. Whenever possible, I have carefully tried to cite the resources used. A very special thanks to distant cousins, Jenna Snyder, and Steve Johnston for sharing their family research and to Wynette Suber and Margaret Sawyer for sharing their research on the Davis family. Historical records are stored in books and on microfilm at the Georgia Archived located in Morrow, Georgia south of Atlanta. The Sewell family researchers don't necessarily agree on all of the information. If you know of any corrections, please contact me!As you all know, this genealogy work is a journey. |
