| The Chadburn(e) surname traces its origins to Anglo Saxon England around 1166 A.D. First appearing in the war against the Norman invaders. Two branchs of the Chadburn tree left England for the American Colonies in the 1630's. One branch settled in what is now Maine and the other branch settled in what is now Maryland. Later they had to escape to Virginia when violence erupted after the colony was given to Lord Baltimore and the Catholics. In 1701 a clerk made a mistake when recording a baptism, dropping the "e" from a Shadburn family starting the Shadburn branch. After fighting against British rule in the Revolutionary War the Shadburn(e) familys left Virginia. One branch settled in Kentucky (Shadburne) and the other branch settled in Georgia (Shadburn). At about 1800 another branch of the Chadburn family left England as convicts and settled in Australia. Now the C(S)hadburn(e)’s are spread all over the United States and Australia. Even the well documented Chadbournes of Main which reached the American Colonies from England separately (I believe) belong to the C(S)hadburn(e) clan. A lot of this information is my theory from my research over the years. Since 1990 I have been trying to unite the C(S)hadburn(e)'s as one family again. England, Australia and the United States. Can you help? I will share my research information freely. I still have not found the definite links to all these families. Will all C(S)hadburn(e)’s please contact me with their family history. No detail is too small. I have neglected this web site because of the effects of tumor surgery. I have been in chronic pain since 1995 and it is hard for me to sit in front of a computer for hours. The cure has eluded me for all these years so I must get on with my life. I will do my best to keep this current. 1 February 2007. Craig T.
