History of Shaddy family from N.C. and on Westward. John Shaddy, Sr. (1-3-1738,2-9-1812) appeared first in Orange County N.C. with a Granville Land Grant dated Oct. 7, 1762. His oldest child John, Jr. served in the Revolutionary War. Emsley, son of John, Jr., changed the spelling to SHADDAY. John Sr's youngest son, Jacob SHADDY, and wife Christianna, are the ancestors of Jack SHADDY. John's daughters, Molly married John FOGLEMAN, Elizabeth married Martin NEASE, Sally married John COBLE, Catherine married George A. FOGLEMAN, Rachel married George FOGLEMAN, Turley married Henry STEEL. John,Sr. and his wife Elizabeth are interred at St. Paul's Lutheran Church cemetery, just south of Burlington, N.C. German spelling probably was SCHETTE or SCHADE.
