OBITUARIES FOR BURIALS AT MT. IDA CEMETERY

 

SASSER, Mrs. Benonia "Nonia", 95, a resident of Brantley, AL, died Friday, January 2, 2004. Funeral services will be 2 pm, Sunday, January 4, 2004 from the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Till and Rev. Sylvia Pierce officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Ida Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Mrs. Sasser is preceded in death by her husband, Andrew B. "Fel" Sasser; her grandson, Byrd Taylor; her parents, Alvin and Jimmie Nichols; her brother, Tharon Nichols; and her sister, Abbie Ruth Compton. Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn S. Brown, Montgomery, AL, Merle (Webb) Compton and Bonnie (George) Taylor, both of Brantley, AL; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Todd Matthews, Wade Compton, Walter Brown, Brian Sudduth, John Holbrook and Mack Taylor. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home Saturday from 5 pm until 7 pm. NICHOLS, Mrs. Mary Ticer, 66, a resident of Brantley, AL., died Saturday, August 21, 1999 in the Crenshaw Baptist Hospital, Luverne, AL. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday from the Mt. Ida Methodist Church with Reverend Doc Kirby and Reverend Wayne Dean officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery with Turner Funeral home of Luverne directing. Survivors include one sister, Miss Geraldine Ticer, one sister-in-law, Mrs. A. B. Sasser, both of Brantley, AL; and a number of nieces and nephews. The body will ly in state at the church for about 30 minutes prior to service time. Active pallbearers will be Jerry Walker, Dr. S. P. Walker, Dauldon Barrow, Tommy Everage, Robert Peek, and Edwin Mitchell.

NICHOLS, Mrs. James Annie (Jimmy), 80, dies in Crenshaw County Hospital Tuesday. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 P.M. from The Mt. Ida Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Simmons officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Turner's Funeral Home directing. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Abbie Ruth Compton, Montgomery; Mrs. Benonia Sasser, Brantley; a son, James Tharon Nichols, Brantley; a sister, Celestia Butler, Glenwood, five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

NICHOLS, Joel Jr., On Sunday night 18th about 11 o'clock, Mrs. Nichols heard her husband make some noise she did not understand and got up and striking a light found that her husband, J. L. Nichols had just died. J. L. was known to his neighbors as Fate. He was born December 06, 1858 and died March 18, 1912. He had been well with the exception of a cold having taken diner away from home that day. No doubt his death was the result of apoplexy or a paralytic stroke, but the News has not heard what the physicians said about it. Deceased had been a father all his life, was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church and the Masonic Fraternity. He leaves surviving his widow and several children. His remains were interred at the Mt. Ida Cemetery on Tuesday by Mt. Ida Lodge. Fate Nichols, the deceased, was a good man and citizen and did the right as any honest Christian. Rev. H. D. Wilson officiating. He was a member of the Spring Hill Baptist Church.

THE BRANTLEY REPORTER,  MARCH 27, 1912

NICHOLS, Job F., commonly known as and called Job Nichols, passed away at his home in Beat 9, this county, on March 28, 1915. His remains were interred at Spring Hill at Mt. Ida Cemetery. He left surviving his wife, Mrs. Lula Nichols, one son, Ethel Nichols, three daughters, Mrs, Harmon Turner, Mrs. Marvin Turner, and Merlis Nichols. He left surviving three brothers, William, George, and Ab Nichols. Three sisters, Mrs. Will Saunders, Mrs. Will Nichols and Mrs. Lula Taylor.    

CRENSHAW COUNTY NEWS, APRIL 01, 1915     

NICHOLS, Etheldred Cyrenous, age 90, of Brantley, died December 6, 1981, at his residence. Funeral services were held Dec. 8, at 11 A. M. from Turner's Chapel with Frank Hyles officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Ida Church Cemetery with Turner's Funeral Home directing. Mr. Nichols is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sally O. Nichols, Brantley; one son, Chad Nichols, Troy; 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

NICHOLS, Mrs. Sarah Daphene, 65, a resident of 317 Botts Ave, Troy, AL, died Sunday, February 11, 1996, at her home, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 1996, at 11:00 A.M. from Park Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Rascoe officiating.  Burial will follow in MT. Ida Cemetery, near Brantley with Skeen Funeral Home directing. the body will lie-in-state, at the church, one hour prior to services. Survivors include six children; Buff Nichols, Troy, AL, Lynn Stewart, Pensacola, FL, Helen Knight, Daleville, AL, Jeff Nichols and Greg Nichols, both of Pensacola; 13 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four sisters, Bonnie Walters, Montgomery, AL, Nell Nichols Hackney, Eclectic, AL, Marge Gray, Montgomery, AL, and Nina Wiggins, Davenport, AL. One brother, Henry Clayton Jackson, Kenosha, WI, one aunt, Inez Wallace, Troy, AL; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her husband, Chad Nichols, who died January 22, 1996; her parents, Henry Walter and Ruth Rebecca Wallace Jackson; and three brothers, Lamon Jackson, M.G. Jackson and Maxwell Jackson. Mrs Nichols was a member of Park Memorial Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Skeen Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in Mrs. Nichols name, to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mary Hilyer, 206 Lamar St, Troy, AL 36081.

NICHOLS- Essie, daughter of William and M. A. Nichols, departed this life September 11, 1904. she was in a low state of health for 19 weary months, yet she never murmured or complained. when asked, "How she Felt?', her answer was always, "Very well".
