He entered the service soon after the start of World War II and fought in the Pacific Theater. On July 04, 1944 Earl Gardner was listed as Missing in action and presumed buried at sea. His name is listed on the "Tablets of the Missing" at the World War II Honolulu Memorial in Honolulu, Hawaii.
