Earl was a son of Willie James "Bill" Gardner and Henrietta "Henryette" Mariah Skipper. Earl W. Gardner served in the United States Navy as Quarter Master Third Class. He entered the service soon after the start of World War II and fought in the Pacific Theater. On July 04, 1944 Earl Gardner was listed as Missing in action and presumed buried at sea. His name is listed on the "Tablets of the Missing" at the World War II Honolulu Memorial in Honolulu, Hawaii. Even though his body was listed as missing and never found a tomb stone exist for him near his hometown of Rutledge at the Black Rock Cemetery in Crenshaw County, Alabama. QSM US Navy WWII
