Notes for STEVEN JOSEPH TONKOVICH:
Steven Tonkovich was one of the first member's of an all volunteer fire department for West Berlin Twp., Allenton, MI, where he and fellow fireman Robert Bollard were publicly accommodated for their efforts in the control of an auto accident that they viewed while driving down the road. John H Thomas, Chief of Police of Capac, MI states that if it were not for the actions of these two men, more people could of been injured. Police Chief John Thomas concludes with "You have a department that you can certainly be proud of.

Steven Tonkovich was a member of the American Legion Post No. 479 and Chaplain of the Almont VFW Post No. 4033.

Steven was adopted as a young child by John Martin Tonkovich husband of Anna Slamka Steven's birth mother. His birth name was Stephen Joseph Slamka.
