Notes for James Gallaher, Sr.:
BIOGRAPHY: James Gallaher, Sr. of New Washington, Clearfield Co., Pa was a Revolutionary War soldier, serving as a Private in Capt. Jonathan Roseson's Company, 4th Battalion of the Cumberland County Militia and was known as a sturdy and fearless Indian fighter. He settled in the area above Chest Creek in 1806. The he was the first settler in New Washington, Burnside Twp. Clearfield Co. in 1816, on 400 acres of land with virgin timber. His cabin was near a spring on what is now the Weaver property. The town of New Washington was named by his son, Crawford and was incorporated in 1859. James and Margaret moved to Clearfield Co. from Huntingdon Co., Pa. James witnessed many depridations by the Indians, who where often on the warpath. He was once wounded by the Red-men and later received a pension because of it.

BIOGRAPHY: John enlisted into the War about 1781, he was a Private First Class in Captain John Moore's Second Battalion, Lancaster County Militia in which he served as a substitute for Abraham Sebolt. This tour of duty went to Bucks Co. according to the Muster Roll of the 5th, 6th, and 7th classes dated 1781. About 1783, he enrolled in Captain Wendel Weaver's Seventh Co., Second Battalion, Lancaster Co. Militia.

WILL: Dated July 13, 1811 and proved on Aug. 24, 1812: I, Johannes Kustert, of Strassbache, write this will for the benefit of my housewife, Margretta. Margretta is to have my house and stable as long as she wants it or lives there or can hold it, and any one cow that she wants. One bed, one large kettle, one small kettle, one spinning wheel, all kitchen utensils that she brought, one large chest and all that is in it, one dozen pewter spoons.
