1. FREDERICK WILLIAM¹ KIESLING^1,^2,³ was born July 15, 1829 in Kiffern, Kingdom of Saxony,Germany⁴, and died April 05, 1912 in Winthrop, Minnasota,^5,⁶. He married CAROLINA RIEHLE^7,⁸ November 09, 1856 in Germany^9,¹⁰. She was born December 31, 1830 in Nauemhoff, Near Lutizig, Germany/ Saxony¹¹, and died October 20, 1897 in Winthrop, Minnasota^11,¹².

Another Pioneer has gone to rest. Friedrich W.( William) Kiesling, Who until 15 years ago. was one of our good substantial citizens died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. C. Canfield, at Winthrop during the night Thursday shortly after midnight. Death was due to old age. The deceased was born in Kiffern, Kingdom of Saxony, Germany on July 15, 1829 and was nearly 83 years old when he answered Death's summons. He learned the blacksmith trade in the old country and was the owner of a blacksmiths shop in his home city which is in the existence today and is owned and operated by relatives of Mrs. Helene Roos. On the 9th day of November, 1856 he was married to Miss Caroline Riehle and in the year 1860 they emigrated to America and came directly to New Ulm where two of his brothers had already settled. He followed his trade here in New Ulm until about 20 years ago when he retired on account of old age and about 15 years ago removed to Winthrop where most of his children reside. In the fall of the same year his wife died and he has since made his home with Mrs. Canfield. The deceased was a kind and indulgent father. He made no great demands on life, was easily satisfied and had the happy faculty of adjusting himself readily and easily to most undesirable and adverse conditions. He is survived by Wife Mrs. Vinceant Page of St. Paul; Mrs. Henry Hammer of Mountain Lake; Mrs. Philip Gruye, Henry Kiesling and Mrs. H.C. Canfield all of Winthrop;Mrs. F.W. Peuser of New Ulm; Mrs. Alfred M. Roos of Madison, Wis. and Mrs. Charles Jullus of Wishek, N.D., all of whom attended the funeral. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and one brother. Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Canfield Saturday morning and the remains were brought to New Ulm at noon of the same day and taken to the home of Mrs. Peuser which was the old home of the deceased from which place the funeral was held Monday afternoon, Albert Steinhauser officiating. Interment was made in the City Cemetery.
