July 14, 1865   (July 14, 1865 was actually a Friday.) 
Thursday Afternoon 

Friend Harry 

With the greatest of pleasur i again Seate myself to answer your ever welcome 
Letter wich I received the 12 of this month it found me well and enjoying my
Self very well the best i knew how and i was very glade to Learn you was well
Lindy (refering to Lucinda) is at our house and is going to Stay all night I
didant get to go over to Lindys last Saturday to go to meeting it hade to go and
rain i was Pretty made but never mind i will go yet some time

We ar going to have Church Sunday at the Brick that is at our School house just
get up early in the morning and take your foote in your hand and come over and
go to meeting i know you will enjoy yourself So you hade better come over you
said you would rather get a Letter from me than any buddy you write to I recound
you will just except your Little Duch Girle in vanburan (Van Buren) if you don't
why you out to (ought to) but don't take any afence at that i have not got much
mores to write and John is going to town to but this in the office for me and he
is huring me So that i can hardly write i do hope you will all get home soon for
i don't know what they ar keeping you down thar for unless they have got So
extra grublon hadns (extra grub on hand) and want you to but it out of the way
but just you never mind when you get home we will have Something extra for you
to eate or less by mity harde (or least try mighty hard)  Lindy is goint to
write you some in this and She will tell you all I have forgot so I will say
good by hoping to hear from you soon

Well Cousin Harry 

I am glad to tell you I am well And to ernestly Hope you are the same O if you
could only be at home with your fiends I no we all want to see you real bad I
often think how cruel it is to keep you boys their if my Shipe could get home
and the rest could stay for all I care for those stuped Abolitionist who crys
out freedom freedom I say cuss their Nigger freedom when tha keep white men in
Bondage for to free the Nigger well harry i wrote you one letter and have had no
answer yet now do write soon
