This poem was written in response to the cancellation of the television show "Joan of Arcadia."  Joan is Joan Girardi, the main character and the one who talked to God.  The "Moon" is Mr. Les Moonves of CBS who canceled the show.

The Death of Joan

An avenger and a visionary
Conspired a child
Who was favored by yaya
To grow unbridled and wild

But then came the time
In her sixteenth year
That taming and training
Was placed in high gear

What am I to do
With this Godly pest
What choice do I have
But to try all my best

And so she did struggle
To do all the chores
But was often bewildered
With her questions ignored

The lessons were varied
Some reasons unclear
But the ripples did ripple
And her pathway was steered

She became ever stronger
Through the pain and delight
And began to see God
As the brightest of lights

I have seen all the ripples
How they changed people's lives
And even when I didn't see
I knew your reasons were wise

I now set before you
The greatest of tests
You have all of the tools
Let faith do the rest

But she questioned her ability
Were her skills well enough honed
To fight this agent of Satan
A mirror of Joan

But alas from the darkness
Came the light of the Moon
He looked down on her world
With hatred and doom

You do not deserve
To live in this way
Your lovers are too old
For your existence to pay

So the Moon did smite Joan
Her heart he did pierce
And while she lay dying
The attacks grew more fierce

Her lovers cried out
Please let this girl live
But the Moon did not care
Cause it could not forgive

So corporate and soulless
This time won the day
For this I am saddened
From my heart I must say

The Moon has succeeded
In what the devil could not do
By braking the hearts
Of the millions who viewed

So for Joan and her lovers
I bid thee farewell
Curse your network to crumble
May you all go to hell
