Notes for J
IM L. BURRUSS:
After Martha died Jim brought all 5 boys into Idabel and gave them all away because he said that he was too old to raise and take care of them, he was 30 years older than Martha Jane. Alvie Jones and wife Clisty raised Ivy Burruss as their own son as they had no children.

This information from family members still living in Idabel. Ok.

Found on 1920 McCurtain, Ok. Census as James L. Burris 56, Marthy 27, Dee 3 2/12, Ivy 1 3/12. (show as female but fits birthdate date of Ivy.) They had a female who died. Could be twin to Ivy.

Jim Burruss worked in the oil fields in Earlsboro, Oklahoma after he and Martha were married.
When his son Watie married Alice Stuckey in March 1916, Jim stated his age as 54.

Jim was a widower with 2 adult sons, Wattie and John, when he came from the Tulsa or Muskogee, Ok. area to McCurtain Co. Ok. He was supposedly 52 and Martha was 22 when they married, but these ages were written in at a later date and have not been verified. (census records confirm) At the same time, his son Wattie married Martha's sister Alice. Jim and Martha's 5 children were born in the Golden Community. The only daughter of Jim and Martha died when she was a baby and is buried at the Holly Creek, McCurtain County cemetary. The family moved to Earlsboro, Ok. Martha died, around 1928 and is buried there.

Jim L Burruss died when Ivy was about 16 years old (1935) and Alvie Jones took Ivy to his father's funeral in Texanna, Oklahoma.
