I am researching my SHAHAN, SHEHAN line. The earliest Shahan that has been found is my great-great-grandfather William B. SHAHAN, born between 1803-1804 in Ohio, Virginia or Kentucky as found on earlier censuses. William married Nancy McMILLIN/McMILLAN born between 1807-1808, in Clarke County, Ohio in 1829. William & Nancy had sons James, Benjamin, William O, Byron, Charles M.(my great-grandfather) & daughters Sally Ann, & Nancy. William was married 2 more times, in 1852 he married Margaret Ferguson in Pike Co. IL & in 1854 he married Mahala McFarland Dunlap, most likely in MO and they had 1 daughter Mahala SHAHAN. William's journey through time has been found in the 1850 IL Census for Pike Co., IL, 1860 MO Census for Salt River Township, Adair Co., MO, and lastly at the age of 66 in the 1870 MO Census, Adair Co., MO living with his son Charles 27 & William O. 30, and Charles'wife Nancy J.(HOOPER)26 their son Thomas H. 4, William O.'s wife Orpha J. 21, & their son Willis E. 2. William probably died about 1872 in Missouri, but no record has so far been found.
I am also researching the following lines, Thomas Frazee HOOPER of Pike Co., IL, Jacob Calaeb WILCOX born in Canada & died in Clinton Co., Iowa, William Austin EVANS from Pulaski & LaClede Co., MO & Wood & Upshur Co., Texas & McMILLIN/McMILLAN from Ohio.

    This is my great-great-grandfather William B. Shahan. This is a photo of a painted tin-type which was taken about 1845 most likely in Adair Co., MO. This photo was supplied by Kaye Chung who is also a descendant of William B. Shahan.
  • Martha Elen (Evans) Shehan/Shahan 1879 - 1912 (98 KB)
    This is my paternal grandmother Martha Elen Evans Shehan/Shahan taken about 1911 in Kansas City, Mo. Martha was born in Springfield, MO October 28, 1879 and died November 26, 1912 at the age of 33 & is buried in the Highland Park Cemetery in Kansas City, Wyandotte Co., Kansas. Martha was the wife of my grandfather Ernest John Shehan/Shahan who died at the age of 63 in 1940 and is buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford, Taylor Co., Iowa. Martha is Chickaswa and Choctaw Native American Indian.

    My dad Edgar James Shehan was born in East Lynne, Cass Co., Missouri on Sept. 17, 1905 and is the twin brother to Edna Jane Shehan Evans.This photo was taken about 1980.Edgar died on May 16, 1985 and is buried in the Highland Park Cemetery in Kansas City, Wyandotte, Kansas.

    Farther of Henry Scott, Essica Gladys, Edna Jane, Edgar James,Ernest John, Robert Martin & Mamie Ardella Shehan. Ernest was born in Springfield, Sangamon Co., IL on Nov. 12, 1876 and died in Bedford, Taylor Co., IA on July 1, 1940 and is buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford.
