In 1900, James and his family were living in Jasper co IL (4).

Listed as Grant Sires by his daughter Loretta in the 1925 State of Iowa census where she says he was born in Iowa. Full name was Ulysses Simpson Grant Sires.
Grant is in 1870 Federal Census for Iowa as 7 y/o living with his parents George and Mary in Washington Twp in Wayne co Iowa which means his year of birth was more like 1863 (2) It also says he was born in Iowa(2). Listed in 1880 Federal Census for Iowa still living with his parents in Wayne co, 17 y/o born in Iowa(3) In the same household was Lydia Long 16 y/o listed as servant (3). He and Lydia were married at his parents home 14 September 1880 (5) (6). They were still living in Washington Twp in 1885 where they were listed in the 1885 state census and their home plat was NW/NE and Arthur and Harlan had been born by then (7).
Listed in 1900 Illinois Census living in Cook co in Chicago. He is listed as Born July 1863 aged 36 born in Illinois (error) (4). Oct 1902 Wayne county newspaper noted a District court case of USG Sires vs George Sires (8). Grant had died by 1910 because in that year census in Missouri, Lydia is listed as widow. WPA for Wayne county has an S.G. Grant bured by George and Mary, listed as died 1909, aged 70. Since this S.G. does not fit any of the known Sires, perhaps this is U.S. Grant Sires and the aged 70 is an error.

Lydia is listed as 56 years old on her last birth and still living according to the information her daughter Loretta gave in the 1925 state of Iowa census (1). Curiously most of Lydia's census records list her as born in Indiana. However, William and Margeret Long were in Iowa in 1856, and 1860 census, so Lydia had to have been born in Iowa. Margeret Long had died by 1869 and Lydia became the ward of her grandparents David and Charlotte Poplin with whom she went to live (9). She was listed in the 1870 Iowa Census living with her grandparents David and Charlotte Poplin (8). She was then 6 years old and listed erroneously as born in Iowa (8). Listed in 1880 Census for Iowa living in Washington twp, Wayne co Iowa in the household of George and Mary Sires where she 16 y/o born in Indiana, father born in Ohio and mother born in ---- (2). She was listed as servant (2), but how she came to live there as a servant is still a mystery. She and Grant were married in his parents house on 14 September 1880 (5),(6). In the marriage register her father is listed as William Long and mother is Margeret Poplin (6). Listed in 1900 Census for Illinois living with Grant her husband in Chicago, Cook county(3). She is listed as Born in August 1864, born in Illinois (3). By 1910 she was a widow and had moved to Missouri, Buchanan county, St Joseph twp where she is in the census as living in the rooming house of Albert J Judkins (4). Chester, Loretta and Viona (?) are living with her. She is listed as 45 y/o widow born in Ky, father born in Ky, mother born in VA (4). Regarding her place of birth, 1880 and 1925 census of Iowa say she was born in Indiana, 1900 Illinois says she was born in Illinois and 1910 MO says she was born in Kentucky. By 1915 she was in Decatur county in Leon, where she says she has been for 5 years (10). She and her children were still living in Leon in the 1920 census (11). July 1926 she attended the funeral of her sister Rosetta Thomas in Decatur co (12).
Her death notice says she died 1 March 1941 in Muscatine (13) and was buried 4 March in Leon (13). A more extensive obituary spoke of her early childhood, when at age 3 she came to Iowa with her parents and of her marriage to Grant and his death in 1908 (14). At the time of Lydia's death, two brothers and a half sister were still living (14).

Chester Sires, born 23 Feb 1891 in Plainview MO ¹¹⁴; died 26 Mar 1917 in St Joseph, Buchanan co MO, fatal shooting¹¹⁴.

Notes for Chester Sires:
In 1900 Chester was living with his parents in Chicago IL (2). In 1910, he was with his mother and siblings in St Joseph MO (3). Chester died in St Joseph Missouri in April 1917 having been fatally wounded by the City Marshall (1). He had become inexplicably delirious and erratic while recovering from a fall from a scaffold and in the ensuing disturbance was shot by the Marshall (1).

In 1885, he was the only child of George and Mary still living with them. In 1895, George Asberry was now married and living with his own family in Wayne co IA near his parents (4). George Fitzer, his uncle, was now living with him (4). In 1900 Asberry was still in Washington twp, Wayne co IA, living next door to his parents (5). 28 June 1898, Asberry was given land in Wayne co by his parents for $1.00 and love and affection (6). Aug 1898, he was elected as an alternate to attend the county convention of Democrats (7) and again in Sept 1999 (8). Dec 1907, he served as a petit juror in Wayne co IA (9).
