Notes for Horace Edgar Shelton:
Decatur Birth records list him as Shelton, Horace Edgar born December 24 1895 in Decatur, Decatur Co , Iowa. Father Ernest Leroy Shelton, mother Clara Luberta Gardner (1). In 1900 he is four years old and living in Decatur IA with his parents (4). In 1910 he was still living with his parents in Decatur, aged 14 (8). He is listed in the 1925 State of Iowa census when he was 29, living with his wife and 3 y/o son in his parents household. His highest education achieved was 11th grade (3). He served in the Army in World War I having enlisted in Chicago Illinois on 11 June 1917 (5). He was a private in Co C of the 68th Engineers and served in France (5). In 1920, he was aged 24 and living with his parents (9). He married Loretta Sires in Cainsville Missouri (2). According to Decatur divorce record, Bill and Loretta divorced 26 Nov 1930 (7). Apparently April 1931 he married 18 year old Valena (7) and they divorced in April 1932 (7). In May 1932 Bill and Loretta married again and divorced again in 1939 (7). They must have been married again, since they were together in later years. He and Loretta converted to Roman Catholicism after their son was grown and both died as practicing Catholics (6). He died 16 March 1965 (3) and his death certificate says his year of birth was 1896 (3), however this is contradicted by birth records in Decatur which says 1895 (1).
