Notes for Lydia A Long: Lydia is listed as 56 years old on her last birth and still living according to the information her daughter Loretta gave in the 1925 state of Iowa census (1). Shortly after the 1860 census William and Margeret moved back to Noble co IN. Margeret Long had died by 1869 and Lydia became the ward of her grandparents David and Charlotte Poplin with whom she went to live (9). She was listed in the 1870 Iowa Census living with her grandparents David and Charlotte Poplin (8). She was then 6 years old and listed erroneously as born in Iowa (8). Listed in 1880 Census for Iowa living in Washington twp, Wayne co Iowa in the household of George and Mary Sires where she 16 y/o born in Indiana, father born in Ohio and mother born in ---- (2). She was listed as servant (2), but how she came to live there as a servant is still a mystery. She and Grant were married in his parents house on 14 September 1880 (5),(6). In the marriage register her father is listed as William Long and mother is Margeret Poplin (6). Listed in 1900 Census for Illinois living with Grant her husband in Chicago, Cook county(3). She is listed as Born in August 1864, born in Illinois (3). By 1910 she was a widow and had moved to Missouri, Buchanan county, St Joseph twp where she is in the census as living in the rooming house of Albert J Judkins (4). Chester, Loretta and Viona (?) are living with her. She is listed as 45 y/o widow born in Ky, father born in Ky, mother born in VA (4). Regarding her place of birth, 1880 and 1925 census of Iowa say she was born in Indiana, 1900 Illinois says she was born in Illinois and 1910 MO says she was born in Kentucky. By 1915 she was in Decatur county in Leon, where she says she has been for 5 years (10). She and her children were still living in Leon in the 1920 census (11). July 1926 she attended the funeral of her sister Rosetta Thomas in Decatur co (12). Her death notice says she died 1 March 1941 in Muscatine (13) and was buried 4 March in Leon (13). A more extensive obituary spoke of her early childhood, when at age 3 she came to Iowa with her parents and of her marriage to Grant and his death in 1908 (14). Notes for Chester Sires: In 1900 Chester was living with his parents in Chicago IL (2). In 1910, he was with his mother and siblings in St Joseph MO (3). Chester died in St Joseph Missouri in April 1917 having been fatally wounded by the City Marshall (1).
