He was the son of 24. Asa Martin Whitlock and 25. Lucinda Hensyel. He married 13. Jeanette Brown 11 August 1893 in Oskaloosa, Mahaska co, IA287.

      13. Jeanette Brown288, born 21 December 1876 in Mahaska co, IA289,290,291,292,293,294,295; died 01 February 1901 in Luverne, Rock co, MN296,297,298. She was the daughter of 26. Francis Marion Brown and 27. Pruey W Wise.

Notes for Arthur Paul Whitlock:
Charles Stanley, guardian for Arthur and his sister Cassie, sold their interest in the undivided third that was theirs as part of Asa Whitlock's estate (7).
Arthur first appears on a census record in 1880 in Mahaska co Iowa, Monroe twp where he is aged 10 and his father has died by this time (3). Arthur married Jeannette Brown 11 Aug 1893 in Oskaloosa Iowa by Mayor Fall, witnessed by F.M. Shangle (2). His parents were listed as A. Whitlock and Lucinda Hensyel and he was listed as aged 22, farmer, born in Iowa (2). They were living in Mahaska co, Monroe twp where he, Jeanette and their newborn son Walter were listed in the 1895 State census (4). Arthur was listed as 23 y/o born in Mahaska co and religion was Methodist (4). In the 1900 Minnesota Census, they were living in Denver Twp, Hardwick, Rock County, where his birthdate is given as Nov 1870 in Iowa and he was 29 years old (6). Because the youngest Myrtle (aged 10 months) was born in Iowa, the family must have moved to Minnesota in 1900 (6). Lived in Luverne Minnesota in January 1901 when son Glen was born(1). Wife Jeannette died from childbed fever Feb 1 1901 about 1 week after Glen's birth (1). The family returned via train to Oskaloosa and Jeannette was buried in the Wymore Cemetery near Rosehill, Iowa (1). Her children went to other homes to live (1). In 1920 Arthur appears to be living in Sioux City, Woodbury co IA and had remarried to a woman named Bertha (9). Arthur is buried in Wymore cemetery with Jeanette and his year of birth is given as 1870 and year of death as 1952 (5). His death certificate lists his date of death as 23 Jan 1852, a resident of Rural Scott twp, Mahaska co, in the Mahaska County Home (8) and he was buried in Wymore cemeter 26 Jan 1852 (8).

  Notes for Jeanette Brown:
Jeannette appears in the 1880 Iowa census in Adams twp, Mahasaka co with her parents where she was listed as 4 y/o and born in Iowa (3). Jeanette, known as Nettie, married Arthur Whitlock 11 Aug 1893 in Oskaloosa Iowa by Mayor Fall (2). She was listed as 19 years old, living in Monroe twp in Mahaska co Iowa, parents names were Marion Brown and Pearl Wise, Jeannette is listed as born in Iowa (2). She and Arthur were still in Monroe twp in Mahaska co for the 1895 state census where she was listed as 19 y/o born in Mahaska co and Methodist (4). She was in the 1900 Minnesota census living with her husband and children in Denver Twp, Rock county-Her birth date was given as Sept 1874 which is contradicted by her tombstone and is also contradicted by her age in the census as 24 (which would be 1876 which is correct) (7).

iv.   Glen Whitlock, born 26 January 1901 in Luverne, Minn316,317; died April 1971 in Des Moines, Polk co, IA317

      14. George Michael Sedgwick318, born 06 May 1855 in Clinton co, Pennsylvania319,320,321,322,323,324,325,326,327; died 20 December 1930 in Galesburg, Illinois328,329. He was the son of 28. John C Sedgwick and 29. Mary Ellen Tate. He married 15. Minnie Fletcher 04 July 1893 in Albia, Iowa330,331.

      15. Minnie Fletcher332,333, born 01 March 1874 in Dudley, Wapello co, Iowa334,335,336,337,338,339,340,341; died 14 March 1954 in Galesburg Illinois342,343. She was the daughter of 30. Thomas Fletcher and 31. Sarah Jane Pierce.

Notes for George Michael Sedgwick:
According to memoirs written by daughter Berneice: He was a coal miner (1). He was listed in the 1860 OH Census in Zanesville, Muskingum co as Micheal Sedwick 4 y/o born in Ohio (7). George was in Wapello County Iowa, Polk Twp in 1880 where he was listed in the census as 24 y/o born in PA, parents born England, and he was living at the time with a 64 y/o farmer Nathan Bowen and his wife Caroline Bowen, aged 63 (8) George was listed in the 1885 state census as living with his parents in Kirksville, Wapello county, where he was a 29 y/o miner born in Pennsylvania (9). He was in Monroe co Iowa by 1893 where in Albia he married Minnie Fletcher Wyman 4 July 1893 by H. Hickenlooper a Justice of the Peace (2). It was his first marriage, her second (2). In the marriage record his age is incorrectly given as 33 when it would have been 38. George and Minnie were in the 1895 state census in Monroe co Pleasant twp where he was listed as 37 y/o miner, born in Penn, Christian (6). An 80 y/o Abel Wyman was also living with them in 1895 and he must have been a relation of Minnie's first husband (6). He and his family were listed in the 1900 Census in Monroe co, Pleasant twp where he was listed as 45 y/o coal miner, born May 1855 (3). Curiously he also was listed as born in England, both parents born in England, emigrated to US in 1868 and 32 years in the US (3). This is the only instance I can find of a mention that George was born in England and since John and Mary Ellen Sedgwick were in Ohio in 1857, this reference is definitely erroneous. It is possible that the year 1868 has some relevance to his parents naturalization. Besides Minnie, children Mary, Fern, Raymond and Berneice are also listed. George is in the 1910 census in the same location and here he is listed as 53 y/o coal miner, born in Penn, father born in England, mother born in England (4). In the 1920 census he is listed as George Sedric 63 y/o born in PA, father and mother born in England (5).

  Notes for Minnie Fletcher:
Minnie first appears on a census in 1880 living with her parents in Polk twp, Wapello county IA at which time she was 5 years old, born in Iowa (2). They were still living there in the 1885 state census when she was 11 years old (8). 23 Dec 1888, while still only 15 years old, Minnie married 36 y/o Edgar Wyman (10). He must have died within a few years. 4 July 1893 in Albia Iowa, Minnie married George Sedgwick, a man 20 years older than she (3). Minnie and George were living in Monroe co, Pleasant twp for the 1895 state census where she is listed as 21 y/o born in Wapello co , Christian (7). She is listed with him and her 4 oldest children in the 1900 census in Monroe co Pleasant twp where she is 25 y/o born March 1875, born in Iowa (4). She lists her father as born in Ohio and mother born in Iowa (4). She and George are in the same location in the 1910 census where she is 36 y/o born in Iowa, father born in Ohio, mother born in Iowa (5). In the 1920 census she was in the same location with her husband and is listed as 44 y/o born in Iowa, father born in the US mother born in Indiana (6). Minnie's confusion about her father's place of birth reflects the fact that he left when she was young. Minnie and George moved to Galesburg Illinois in 1924 where Minnie died 14 March 1954 (9).

Funeral service was Wednesday March 17 1954 at 14:00 at the Lewis Funeral Home in Albia, Iowa. Buried at Pleasant Corners Cemetery (1). Pallbearers were Jess Carter, Ray Storey, Merle Schaeffer, John Moyle, and Gus Ostring (1).
