  Notes for Mary Fitzer:
Mary Fitzer married George Sires 24 Oct 1844 in Cass co Indiana (9). She and her family (including her parents) migrated to Iowa in 1855-6 where she was on the 1856 state census in Wayne county, Washington township, listed as Mary Sirus 33 y/o, born in Ohio, 0 year resident of the state of Iowa (10).
Mary is in in 1870 Iowa census in Washington twp Wayne county Iowa with her husband. At the time was 47 y/o born in Ohio (2). In late Oct 1871, she appeared with her mother and siblings to request that the court set aside the will of her father John Fitzer (11) and this request was granted (11). 21 Jan 1873 Fitzer's land in Lucas county was partitioned and Mary received her share (16). In 1874 Mary received the sum of $971.75 as her share of her father's estate (12). Listed in 1880 Iowa Census living in Washington twp in Wayne co Iowa with her husband, listed as 57 y/o born in Ohio, father born in Ky mother born in Penn(3). She is in the 1895 state census in the same location, 71 y/o born in Ohio, Methodist Episcopal (8). Mary is again in 1900 Iowa Census living in same place with her husband George, Born May 1823 aged 78 y/o, married 56 years, mother of 11 children 8 still living, she was born in Ohio and her father born in Ohio and mother born in Ohio (4). Sept 1900, Mary accompanied her husband to Corydon on business (15). 21 Feb 1906 Mary gave an affidavit under oath to the notary public that she was acquainted with a sale of land from Mathew Ralston to her father John Fitzer in 1853 and that at the time Ralston was unmarried (14).
Cemetery and Grave records say that no dates are listed on her gravestone in Woods cemetery in Washington twp, Wayne co Iowa (5). Wayne county Records of Deaths list Mary Sires 84 y/o died 17 Jan 1908 born in Ohio, died in Derby of pneumonia, buried in Fitzer cemetery (6) and it goes on to say that she was born 6 May 1823 in Ohio, father's name was John Fitzer, mother Mary Woods (6) (13). Says that Mary Sires was buried 19 Feb 1908 in Fitzer (6). Because her headstone in Woods cem has blank dates and this says she was buried over a month after her death in Fitzer it supports the hypothesis that she was buried out of state. She is listed as Mary Fitzer on her son Grant's marriage register (7).

He probably the John F Sires living in Jackson co MO, born in Indiana, birthdate given as Aug 1839 (8). This is in conflict with previous census records and the fact that his parents married in 1844 but other information in the census is consistent with John. The estimate birthdate of 1846 is more reasonable.
