      22. William Long, born 29 October 1831 in Licking co OH676,677,678,679,680,681,682,683,684,685; died 04 September 1906 in Weldon, Decatur co IA686,687,688,689,690,691,692,693. He married 23. Margaret Ann Poplin 04 October 1855 in Putnam County, Indiana694.

      23. Margaret Ann Poplin695, born Abt. 1830 in Ohio696,697,698; died Abt. 1869 in Wayne co Iowa699. She was the daughter of 46. David Poplin and 47. Charlotte McKinney.

Notes for William Long:
William Long was born Ohio according to the 1856 state Iowa census and 1860 Federal Census for Iowa (1), (2), but his daughter Lydia would later list him as born in Indiana or Kentucky. He married Margeret Poplin 4 Oct 1855 in Putnam County Indiana (3). This must have been shortly be they and her parents left for Iowa for they were in Wayne county by 1856 (1) where he was listed as 24 y/o born in Ohio and with no children. 20 June 1857 William bought Lot 3 and the south half of Lot 1 in Block 20 in Peoria from James Peck (6-p89). 9 July 1859 he bought Lot #4 and the north half of Lot #2 and north half of Lot #1 in Block 20 in Peoria from the Kimes (6-p90).
William was listed with Margeret in the 1860 Iowa Census still living in Wayne co Benton twp, next door to her parents (4). He was listed as 20 years old, real estate valued at $500, personal at $100, a carpenter and born in Ohio (4). 25 May 1861 William and Margeret sold their town lot in Peoria Lot #2 Block 23 to Eli Fletcher (5). 7 July 1862 they went back to Indiana and bought Lot #18 in Kendallsville in Noble county Indiana from John and Lydia Kime (8). 20 July 1862 William enlisted with Co D 74th Indiana infantry to fight in the Civil War (17)(18)(19). When he enlisted at Kendallville IN 20 he was 31 years old, 5 ft 11 1/2 inches tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, born in Licken co Ohio, occupation carpenter (19). 21 Aug 1862 he mustered in at Indianapolis and was listed on the muster rolls as present, until 11 April 1863 when he listed as sick at Post hospital (19). May 26 1863 he was sent to Convalescent Camp at Murfreesboro (19). He was paroled from Mumsfordsville KY 17 Sept 1862 (19). He discharged with disability 4 August 1863 (17) from Nashville TN (19). 22 May 1865 William and Margeret were in Noble county Indiana when they sold Lots 1,2,3,4 in Block 20 in Peoria to Elizabeth Oliver (6-p90). 9 August 1965 William and Margeret sold Lot 18 in Kendallsville Indiana to Frederick Shinoock (7).
Margeret was dead by 1871 and their younger children went back to Wayne county Iowa to live with the Poplins. 28 Oct 1874, William married his second wife Louisa Lucy Boston in Centerville (14). In 1880, William was listed in the census in Centerville in Appanoose county, 50 y/o carpenter born in Ohio, both parents born in Ohio (11). His second wife Louisa Lucy and daughter Martie were also there (11). 5 May 1883 William joined GAR Centerville Post 122 (17). In 1885 the Longs were living in Drake's 4th addition,2nd ward of Centerville (15). 7 Jan 1888 William and Lucy mortgaged a town lot for money from the IOOF which they repaid (22-p305). 20 Aug 1890, William mortaged some land for money from IOOF which he repaid (21). Jan 1893 he again took out a mortgage from the IOOF (23-p62) and again that same August (24). In 1900 he and Lucy were still in Centerville and widowed daughter Martie and her 5 y/o daughter were also there (12). Lucy died 7 Feb 1901 and 9 Feb William purchased a cloth casket for her (13). The following day he paid $7.00 for a hearse and a cab (13).
After Lucy's death, William went to Weldon Iowa to live with his daughter Martie (9)(10). He died there 4 Sept 1901 (9)(10) of Bright's Disease (16) (20) and was buried in Centerville in Oakland cemetery 5 Sept (9)(10). He was a member of the GAR (17) and IOOF Lodge (9)(10). $10.00 was paid from his estate for the use of a hearse (13).

  Notes for Margaret Ann Poplin:
Margeret married William Long in Putnam County IN 4 Oct 1855 shortly before they left for Iowa (1). They were listed in the 1856 Iowa Census, having just moved there (2) and she was listed as 26 y/o born in Ohio; none of their children had been born as yet. She and William were still in Wayne county, Benton twp in 1860, where she was listed as 30 y/o and born in Ohio (3). She died by 1869 when her father David Poplin was made guardian of her young children Charles, Lydia and James (4). Those children were living with Margeret's parents in 1870. The whereabouts of William are as yet not ascertained.

  Notes for Chartlotte Rosetta Long:
Dec 1867, Rosetta was listed as an heir of Margeret Long, though her name was entered as Charles R Long (5). Rosetta was 8 y/o and living with her grandparents David and Charlotte Poplin in Wayne co IA in the 1870 census (1). Her siblings Lydia and James F were also living there (1). In 1880 she was living with her husband Henry and their small children in Washington twp in Wayne co (2). In 1900 she and Henry and their children were living in Decatur county, Franklin township (3). She was also there in the 1925 state census (4). She died 17 July 1926 in Weldon, Iowa and her funeral was attended by a number of family members (5).
