Ancestors of Pamela Loretta Shelton

      38. William Nightwine, born Abt. 1790 in to 1800 in PA1271. He married 39. Elizabeth Clabaugh Abt. 18201272,1273.

      39. Elizabeth Clabaugh1274, born Abt. 1800 in Hagerstown, Washington co MD1275,1276,1277,1278. She was the daughter of 78. Martin Clabaugh and 79. Mary Margeret Householder.

Notes for William Nightwine:
William is listed in the 1820 census in Tyrone township where he is aged 26-45 and only his wife (no children) listed (4). This puts his birth at between 1775 and 1794. Also listed as living in Tyrone twp in 1820 by Africa (6). In 1830 he and his family were still in Huntingdon co, Huntingdon twp and living near Joseph Nightwine who was the same age group as William (5). In 1830 William was in the 40-50 age group which now puts his birth at 1780-1790. 7 Dec 1838 William bought some land S29-T8-R1 in Columbiana co Ohio from Robert Filson (2). William and his family are listed in the 1840 Ohio census in Columbiana co Unity twp (1). He is still in the 40-50 age range which still puts his birth at 1780-1790. Because he fell as 40-50 in 1830 and 1840, he would likely be at the 1790 end. He and Elizabeth sold the small parcel of land 1 Feb 1844 to John Taylor (3). This would have been shortly before they left to go West. Presumably he died between Ohio and Illinois where his family appears to be living without him in 1850 (7).

  Notes for Elizabeth Clabaugh:
Elizabeth Nightwine is named as the daughter of Martin Clabaugh in his Revolutionary War pension records. (4).
In 1830, Elizabeth would be the female in the 30-40 age range, living in Huntingdon co PA (3). This puts her birth at 1790-1800. In 1840 she and William were now in Columbiana co OH and she is still in the 30-40 age range which puts her at 1790-1800 and probably is closer to 1800 since she is listed in the same age group in both 1830 and 1840. She is likely the Elizabeth Nightwine living with Martin Nightwine aged 21 in Woodford co IL (1). She was listed as aged 45 (1) and born in VA...if so either her age is wrong or she is not the Elizabeth Nightwine who was married to William Nightwine. In 1860, she was living with Isaac and Mary Margeret (Nightwine) Barnts in Jones co IA,and was listed as 60 y/o and born in PA (2).

iii.   William Nightwine, born Abt. 1828 in PA1302
  Notes for William Nightwine:
In 1850 this William was living in Illinois, in McLean co and was 27 y/o born in PA (1). I have placed him as part of the other Nightwine group who was living in IL and also from PA because the surname is unusual and they share similar residences. In 1860 he was still in Bloomington, McLean co, working as a boarding house keeper and living with Melinda aged 26 (wife?) and Melissa aged 6 (daughter?) (2).

iv.   Martin Nightwine, born Abt. 1829 in Indiana or Ohio1303,1304
  Notes for Martin Nightwine:
In 1850 Martin was 21 y/o and born in Indiana, and was living in Woodford co IL not far from Abraham Nightwine(1). If he was a son of William and Elizabeth Nightwine, he would not have been born in Indiana, but would have been born in PA. In 1829, the Nightwines had not yet gotten to Ohio from PA

  Notes for Charles G Nightwine:
In 1850, Charles was living in Woodford co IL in the household of Martin Nightwine and an older woman named Elizabeth Nightwine (1). He was 12 y/o and born in Indiana (1). Probably the same person as Charles Nightwine who was living in Clayton co IA in 1880, who according to his age of 38 y/o (2) would have been born in Ohio in 1842 which is consistent with the Columbiana co Nightwines. 20 Aug 1862 he enlisted in Co I, 94 Reg Illinois (3). He said that his age was 25 (which makes him born in 1837) (3) and served until 1865 (3). When he died 4 Aug 1898 in Benton co, his age was not given(4).

Notes for Alexander Sires:
In a Wayne co Iowa History biography of George Sires, George was said to be born in Jackson co IN, 9 April 1820 the son of Alexander and Rebecca (Scott) Sires (1). Alexander served in the War of 1812 (11)(3)(19). Alexander was listed as a Private in Col McFarland's Detachment in the Indiana Militia in the War of 1812 (3) and served with Capt Samuel Lee's company of Militia, 7 Regt Indiana Territory from 13 March 1813 to 17 June 1813 (19)(34). George's grandfather, Joseph came to the Territory of Indiana in 1806 and was one of the first pioneers to that state (1). Alexander and Rebecca were married in Monroe co Indiana (1). Joseph Sires died 2 May 1816 in Jackson co Indiana (8) and in his will he left some land, wagons and farming equipment to Alexander (8). When George was five, his parents returned to Monroe co IN and then to Putnam co IN and in 1828 settled in Carroll co IN where George grew up, helping to clear the timbered land (1). May 1828, Alexander was chosen as a grand juror to serve in the Nov 1828 term (5-p253) (16p123). May 1829, he served with others as a hand in rebuilding the road from Delphi to Logansport (5-p235-6) and Sept 1831 was one of the appointees to review the road (5-p247). Alexander and his family relocated to the town of Washington in Green county Wisconsin in 1854 (12).

In the winter of 1847-8, the first Methodist services were held at Alexander's house (12) and he and Rebecca were among the first members of the church in Green county (12). 4 April 1849, Alexander placed an add in the Western Christian Advocate in an attempt to locate his brother William who had gone to Illinois 13 years before (33). Alexander was in Washington twp, Green county Wisc in the 1850 Census living with his wife Rebecca, children Alexander Jr, Elizabeth (4). Alexander was listed as 54 y/o farmer born in Virginia, real estate valued at $1000 (4). In his household, also were Amanda Scott 6 y/o born in Indiana and another Elizabeth Sires 18 y/o born in Illinois (4). 5 Jan 1852 Alexander and Rebecca sold some of their land in Green County to William Sires (10). 5 Jan 1852 they sold the remainder of their land in Green County, having already relocated to Richland county Wisconsin (11). They lived in Henrietta in the first year of the permanent settlement there (13) Alexander platted the town of Siresvilled which was named after him, but the town did not flourish and later became Woodstock (12) (13). 2 March 1855 Alexander and Rebecca sold a lot in Siresville to Milton Satterlee (20-p16) 18 July 1855 Alexander and Rebecca sold a lot in Siresville to Hiram Quick (17-p543). 12 Sept 1855 Alexander and Rebecca sold a lot in Siresville to Francis Stewart for one dollar (14-p365). 1 April 1856 Alexander was among those who voted to organize the town of Henrietta (13).
