Last updated 02/15/2003, I am researching a number of lines primarily from New England, Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Iowa. All of my great great grandparents lived and died in Iowa. My reports on Shelton and Sires will always be on this page as will my ancestor list. I will change the other reports periodically. My Shelton line descends from Ralph Shelton of Middlesex co through his son Thomas Shelton and grandson Reuben. My 4th great grandfather Medley Shelton (d. 1839) served in the Revolutionary War from Virginia. My Sires line descends from Joseph Sires who died in Indiana in 1816, through his son Alexander. I also have a report on the descendants of Nicholas Shelton who is the first Shelton noted by primary records in the county of Norfolk England. He is the progenitor of the Norfolk main line which eventually passed into oblivion and there is no known connection with the Sheltons in the US. This descent contains the source info used and mainly follows the research of the Norfolk Records Society. It also contains information on the offshoot lines in Brome, Staffordshire and Essex. It should be noted that I believe that the reseach of Mildred Campbell Whitaker is very flawed and that the connection of the English Sheltons and the US Sheltons is not proven. I
believe that Ralph Shelton who died 1733/4 in Middlesex co was the immigrant ancestor and his parentage is yet to be determined. I would love to hear from anyone else researching these or related lines.
