Notes for S
HADRACK ROWE:
According to the Veteran's Administration Papers
BA-J/MCS, SHADRACH ROWE, R9046, and BA_J/MLB,
JOHN ROWE, R9046, the following is a brief recollection
of the military life of SHADRACH ROWE.

SHADRACH ROWE, the only soldier by that name that is found in the Revolutionary War records of the Veteran's Administration Papers, applied for a pension on July 18, 1850, at which time he was eighty-seven years of age and was living in Harris County, Georgia.
He alleged that he enlisted in 1779 in the North Carolina militia, served three months as a private under Captain Council Briant and was engaged in guarding the Tory prisoners at Newbern, Craven County, North Carolina. He alleged, also, that he enlisted later in 1782 and served three months under Captain Council Briant again guarding Tory prisoners for a short while. He left there on a march towards Wilmington, NC as the British had possession of the area, but by the time the troops reached there, the British had evacuated the area.
SHADRACH was in no battle in either enlistment. His services came at the close of the war and he never received any pay.
His claim was denied as he failed to show proof of the alleged service, in accordance with the requirement of the pension law.
SHADRACH stated that JAMES ROWE served as drummer and JESSE ROWE served as Fifer with him during the Revolution, but did not give relationship.
In the records of JOHN ROWE, it is stated that SHADRACH ROWE was born May 11, 1762 and that SHADRACH was a member of the Baptist Church. It states that JOHN ROWE was 13 years older than SHADRACH.

Shadrack was a charter member of the Mountain Creek Baptist Church in Harris Co., Georgia.

Shadrack Rowe's gravesite is about a mile or so east of the Interstate, on the road that goes east just South of Whitesville. There is a barn very close to the road on the North side, a single story white house across the street, and a small wooden house to the west of the barn. There is a fence line running just to the West of the Barn, and perpendicular to the road. There is a horse gate that you can drive through, your vehicle opening the gate as you go. The cemetery is in a clump of trees about a hundred yards from the road, behind the wooden house and to the west of the fence line. The property is owned by the Sly family of Columbus, so permission to go on the land is advised. Tenants live in the wooden house. There is a DAR marker on Shadrack's grave, The grave of Nancy Bynum and a number of slave graves are nearby.
