William Sheppard home in Stone Mountain. View 1
The house is located well away from the street at the northwest corner of Sheppard and Rockbridge in Stone Mountain. The driveway entrance is about 200' north of the intersection on Sheppard. "Old Bob", the present occupant, tells the story that the house was built in 1844, and is one of the oldest standing buildings in the Atlanta area. Supposedly, General Sherman bivouacked his troops on the property, and stayed in the house while on his march to the sea. Perhaps he left this house standing in his version of appreciation.
