Notes for C
HARLES AMOS GRENINGER:
Charles Amos Greninger took his family from the Carthage, Missouri area into Fairland, Indian Territory, Oklahoma because the Cherokee Outlet along the Oklahoma/Kansas border was purchased by the U.S. Government for homesteading by the white man. But, Cherokee Outlet was opened only, not the Cherokee Nation lands where Fairland was located. The Indians stated it was okay, but the white Indian Agent said no, because the land was to be divided thus: 80A for First generation Indians; 40A for Second generation Indians and Zero (0)A for then on. So, Rena May and Inez Bernice were born in Cherokee Territory near Fairland, Oklahoma, 11 miles south of Miami, OK. Rena May died and is buried at Seneca Cemetery, Seneca, Newton Co., MO. The Charles Amos Greninger family lived in a tent during this 1894-1895 time near Fairland, Oklahoma. Then Charles Amos Greninger returned to Carthage, Missouri area to live until 1919. The Indians told him that they would sell when they received their allotments. In 1919, he received a letter; he returned to Fairland, Oklahoma area, (area being 2 1/2 miles E. from Fairland) purchased 80 A (where his grandson, Everett Nathanial Greninger, now lives. Later, Charles Amos was the second owner of additional 160A west, across the road, from the original 80 A. Later he moved two, two story houses, located on the 160A onto the 40A given to Chester Arthur Greninger. The other 40A was given to Gilbert Austin Greninger. Everett Nathanial Greninger, son of Chester Arthur Greninger, purchased 40A from his dad Chester and 40A from his uncle Gilbert, making a total of 80A. Charles Amos built a native stone house on the 160 A, where he removed the other houses from which is still standing in very good condition. It is now owned by a Mr. Spark's. 240A total land purchased.

  Notes for RENA MAY GRENINGER:
Rena May Greninger:

The Seneca Cemetery is not far from where the Greningers have their
reunions every five years. Robert L. F. Greninger and his father went there
to see Rena's grave site when Robert returned from Japan (USAF) in 1956. It
is also not far from Fairland, OK.

Rena's full and correct given name may have been "Lorena May Greninger". Georgia Houk told Letha Greninger Hubbard of Joplin, MO., that "Rena" was named for a neighbor girl of ours--Lorena Riddle. All records show only the given name of "Rena May", not Lorena. Rena could have been named after the neighbor girl, but not fully. Child did not live very long.
