| I'm from the family of John Henry Shields and Zonia (Holmes) Shields. My Family came from Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, and Mississippi. My family setteled in Rison, Arkansas, Cleveland (formally Dorsey) County. I'm looking to further my research. I'm looking for any Shields and/or Brewer's (African American) who lived in and around Cleveland (Dorsey or Bradley) County. The name of Lawson Shields and possible wife named Classie or Clarrisa are my last leads to finding the parents of my G-Grand father. Census records state, the father of John H. Shields was born in Tennessee. The children of John Henry and Zonia Shields are George, Nemiah, Jeff, and Policy (also named Doc) who died before the age of ten years old. John Henry Shields married again after the death of his First and Second wife. He also has a brother named Norman Shields (Marendy Johnson) and a sister named Annie Shields-Brewer (Charley) also of Arkansas. Other surnames connected to the Shields name are: Joe A. Brewer (Joan Brewer in 1870 census), Stephen Brewer, Betty Brewer, Ulysses Brewer, Haywood Brewer, James Brewer, Sallie Brewer, Rosie Brewer, Charley Brewer, Joe Brewer Jr., Virginia Tolbert, Harriet Johnson-Matthews, Reuben Matthews, Charles Johnson and Magdeline Johnson-Brewer.
