Shuey: The Ancestors & Descendants of Daniel Schuy
Family patriarch, Daniel Schuy (Juis, Shewey, etc.) arrived in Philadelphia on September 18, 1732, aboard the Johnson from Rotterdam. He was born in Oggersheim, in the Palatinate, and lived there and later in Dannstadt. His French Huguenot parents and grandparents had emigrated to present-day Germany circa 1695 to escape relentless Catholic persecution. Shueys took an active role in the American Revolution, saw action on BOTH sides of the Civil War, and helped settle the frontier West.Today, there is a Shuey Run and Shuey Lake in PA, a Shueyville in IA, a Shuey Avenue in Walnut Creek, CA, a Mt. Shuey (and Shuey Pass) in Jasper Nat'l. Park, CN, and a Shuey School in CA as well. Shueys, Sheweys, Schueys, Shoeys, Shoueys, Shuees, Shuas, and those descended therefrom number more than 60,000 today, living in every one of the United States. Names we are still researching include L'Avenant, Keller, Conrad, Schilling, Hoerner, and Albert...to name a few. Please let us know if you have any info on any of these folks. | Shuey:The Ancestors & Descendants of Daniel Schuy Updated October 31, 2003 |
