Maybe hitting the big five-oh (50) in 2003 instigated a renewed interest in recording, gathering and sharing as much family information as possible. In our mobile society, it is a luxury for brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers (not to mention aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins)to all stay as closely connected as was once possible when the family all settled within a few hours of each other. Since there are no more male "Sides" in my line to carry on the name, I felt it my responsibility to document our family for my daughter Aundie and others having an interest in remembering the Sides clan from Cherokee County, Texas. I am perhaps the most guilty when it comes to keeping in regular touch with my loved ones and have conveniently used the excuse of distance and other priorities to come between regular communication with those that mean the most to me. Since my mother had a fire at her place not long before she died, many photographs, yearbooks and communications were destroyed. I am literally starting from scratch to pull this all together. If you have an interest in helping to fill in the blanks of our family tree, please email or write to me with any information you feel would be helpful. This would include pictures (please identify the people with a note), copies of birth, marriage or death certificates. Also helpful would be copies of letters, old newspaper articles, yearbook pages or anything else that would give us more insight into the family. In return, I will return your originals and share with you the work as it progresses and you can use it to fill in your own individual family trees. My hope is to eventually capture all photos on a CD and send it to all who helped make this happen. I have some information on my immediate family: my father was James Edward Sides (Jim) and mother Cherrie Jesslyn Bounds (Jess). I can trace his ancestors back to Andrew Cullen Sides on my father's side (1805). On my mother's side, my I have been able to trace back to John and Rebecca Bounds (Bownds)to 1672 in Dorcester MD. This will be a continuous journey and if... after looking at the detailed family tree, you see where our ancestors were related, drop me a note. I am always looking for pictorial or other information to add to the ongoing storyboard. The goal should be to bring this all to life with stories and warm remembrances for those here and in the future. I am looking forward to sharing this adventure with you.
