Ira Ellis Bounds (son of John Chapman Bounds and Martha Ann Ellis)⁵⁹ was born Sep 27, 1852 in Jasper City, MS, and died Dec 01, 1922 in Turney, TX. He married Martha Anna Arnwine on Nov 22, 1877 in Rusk , Texas, daughter of Nelson David Arnwine and Sarah Sallie Walling.

Letter on his death: "Sudden death of a good man"
Mr Ira Bownds of the Turney neighborhood died at 1:40 in the afternoon following a stroke of Apoplexy received at 10:30 this morning. His age was about 71 years.

His death came very unexpected, as he had been in his usual good health up until this morning. From the first of the attack it was realized that his condition was very critical, and relatives were summoned at once all of the children reaching his home before the end came.

It will be remembered that the children of Mr Bownds gave them a surprise celebration for their 45th anniversary about two weeks ago which was a very joyful occasion.

Mr Bownds was in town early this week and stated to one of the editors that he was preparing to make his will as he felt he could not live a great deal longer and that he was particularly anxious to provide his wife in case he could be called away. We little thought at that time that we would never see him a live again. At this hour the funeral arrangements have not been made, but we presume he will be buried tomorrow some time probably at the Meador burying ground.

Mr Bownds was one of the best men we have ever known and his death means a great loss.
