| I was bored one Saturday afternoon and on a whim, decided to see what information was on the internet regarding the Watson side of the family. One thing led to another and here I am, with over 400 people in my tree and still quite a few blanks to fill in. I have made some progress with my Mom’s side, but haven’t gotten quite as far as I would like. I will be adding to this in the near future. You'll notice that Eric's family tree is included here also, at least what I have of it at this point. And yes, before you notice, his Mom is a Taylor too, so we are hoping we aren't distant relatives :) Hahaha. I haven't quite finished with my living, immediate relatives, so don't be offended if you don't find yourself on here - you will be soon. As a side note, you have to be 'invited' by me to be able to view my website without being a member of genealogy.com; so, if there is a family member who was not invited and is interested, please email me their email address and I will include them. I can’t post on this website all of the reports and trees I am able to make with my Family Tree Maker software so if there is something you would like me to do for you (or try to do at least!), just send me an email and I can send an electronic version of a tree or report. You will also find that when possible, I have attached ‘sources’ to some of our ancestors; for example, for Elzen I have attached various census records and his WWI Draft Registration Card data from 1917. I have found a lot of information online and am working to compile it all and attach it to the appropriate people and right now I have about 150 sheets of paper I’ve printed!! Moreover, you will find links on my page to the DeKalb County, TN (where the Watson/Taylor family is from) Genealogical website in addition to the Tennessee Genealogical Website. Please take a moment to visit each, especially the DeKalb County website, as they have an enormous amount of online data and it's free. So, enjoy and please feel free to email me with any updates, corrections (for those of you that are living, I don't have many of your birthdates, marriage dates, etc.) or just to say 'hi'. Quick Stats for my family tree: <as of 2/7/07> Total # of People: 421 Total # of Marriages: 164 Average Lifespan: 65 yrs, 3 mos Total # of Generations: 24 Total # of Surnames: 176 Interesting Facts: ~Carrie Watson, my great-grandmother on my Dad’s side (Grandpa Bob’s Mom), had given her maiden name as Taylor however, in doing this research, I ran into a dead-end. But, thanks to online census records and the online family trees of my distant relatives’ I was able to solve the ‘mystery’. I found, and verified, that her maiden name was in fact Mullican. Her mother’s (Tennessee, aka Tennie) maiden name was Taylor. To further compound the issue, Carrie’s father’s name has a couple of different spellings and a couple of different nicknames. But after many hours of research, I am confident that my data is correct. ~I traced the Taylor family (through my Dad’s side, not to get confused with Eric’s Mom’s) back to 1074 in England however, the last entry I am unsure of and have yet to verify; I am sure that the second to the last entry, for Hanger Taylifer, is correct. ~The Taylor name has changed spelling and pronunciation in my lineage; what we know as Taylor had at one point been Taylifer then quite possibly Taillefer. This is very common when tracing lineages back that far and to another country. ~Unfortunately, I could not trace the Watson family further than William Watson, Birth Date 1875/Death Date 1814, in Orange County, NC. While one step further than previously known, I have essentially hit a brick wall. However, I do plan on researching further and hopefully make some headway. |
