Nathaniel Shannon, the first of the name in New England, was born in the year 1655 at Londonderry, in the province of Ulster, Ireland. During the first 20 years of the 18th century, he served as the Naval (customs) Officer of the port of Boston. He is buried in the Old Granary Cemetery.
