| Family research on Sebastian Sigl and Thekla Ranzinger and Johann George Sigl and Magdalena Saxinger. Sebastian SIGL was from Zwiesel, Germany.He was born in 1832. He married Thekla RANZINGER in Zwiesel Germany and had 9 children.Then married Theres SCHINK After Thekla Sigl died in Zwiesel, Germany in 1872.They came to America in 1873 with the children on the ship S.S. Holsatia April 4th-MAy 15th. The steamer belonged to " The Hamburg Line " It was built by Caird & Co, Greenock.It was launched on March 9th 1868. 3'134 tons, straight bow, 1 funnel, 2 masts, iron consttuction, screw propulsion, service speed 12 knots, passenger accommodation for 90 in 1st class, 130 in 2nd class and 520 in steerage, Captain was B.H.A Barends 1871-1875 last voyage, Hamburg-Havre-New York( 2 round trips)1878 acquired by the Russian Voluntree FLeet and renamed Rossija, 1894 Dnestr ( russian navy) 1910 Blokshif No 5 ( hulk) Oct. 1916 scuttled at Trebizond in the Black Sea.There was 17 births and 44 deaths that year aboard ship. The trip Sebastian took had 917 passengers, 1 person sick and sent to hospital. They went to America on April 4th 1873 and landed on may 15th 1873 in New York. So it took them 43 days to get here, makes for a long trip. |
