Notes for Joesph Simplot:
      Joesph probably came west with or soon after his two older brothers. Family tradition states that he also to traveled to Texas, perhaps with John, but, if so, he left no record.

      3. Henry Fredrick3 Simplot (John Claude2, Phillipe1) was born March 01, 1806 in Besancon, France. He married Susan LeClere May 01, 1831 in Parish, New York. She was born 1811 in Montbellard, France, and died April 1876 in Dubuque, Iowa.

Notes for Henry Fredrick Simplot:
      First to arrive in Dubuque was Henry. After stopping briefly in Chicago and Nauvoo, Illinois, he arrived in Dubuque by 1835, and on May 20, 1835 he purchased a lot on the East Side of Main Street from Mary Good. There he established a mercantile business and was quite successful, later expanding into grain brokerage and meat packing while continuing to engage in many land transactions.
      His wealth grew as did his stature in the community, and he was elected a member of the first Board of Aldermen.

      4. John Henry3 Simplot (John Claude2, Phillipe1) was born July 07, 1808 in Besancon, France, and died September 09, 1883 in Dubuque, Iowa. He married (1) Annie (Nancy) Moffitt April 16, 1835 in Nauvoo, Illinois, daughter of Thomas Moffitt. She died April 1838 in Potosi, Wisconsin. He married (2) Mary Moffat April 23, 1839 in Dubuque, Iowa.

Notes for John Henry Simplot:
      John C. and Annie moved to Iowa, arriving in Dubuque.     
      In 1839 John traveled to Harrisburg (now Harris) County, Texas, where on December 11, 1839 he received a head right certificate for 320 Acres. He did not stay to settle and patent the land, however, as he was back in Dubuque by the time of the 1840 census. Initially a grocer, he later carried on an extensive trade in the iron and heavy hardware business.
      When John died he left considerable property to his children.

  24 i.   Marianne4 Simplot, born May 25, 1836; died October 28, 1909 in Austin, Texas. She married Almonzon Houston Newton March 30, 1865 in Nauvoo, Illinois.
  Notes for Marianne Simplot:
      Marianne and Almanzon moved to Osage Mission (now St. Paul), Kansas in 1870, then to Austin, Texas in 1875 or 1876. Marianne died in Austin.

Notes for Josephine Simplot:
      Josephine remained in Oswega County after the death of her father. On February 3, 1832 upon the request of Joseph Torrey, administrator of her late father's estate, Isham Simons was appointed her guardian.

      10. Elizabeth S.3 Simplot (John Claude2, Phillipe1) was born 1823, and died Abt. 1880. She married Christopher Pelan March 14, 1843 in Dubuque, Iowa. He was born in Belfast, Ireland, and died April 12, 1877.

Notes for Elizabeth S. Simplot:
      Elizabeth remained in Oswego County where in 1842 Leander Babcock was listed as her Guardian. Later she also came to Dubuque.

Notes for Frances Simplot:
      Frances died of Cholera. As did her children.
      Frances was still in Oswego as late as 1842, where Leander Babcock was her Special Guardian. Leroy Randall, a native of Cambridge and wholesale dealer in leather and saddler.
