      18. Alexander4 Simplot (Henry Fredrick3, John Claude2, Phillipe1) was born January 05, 1837 in Dubuque, Iowa, and died October 21, 1914 in Dubuque, Iowa. He married Virginia Knapp November 11, 1866. She was born February 11, 1847 in Hebron, Ohio, and died October 26, 1904.

                  Obituary of Alexander Simplot
                                                                  Funeral of Alexander Simplot will be held Saturday Afternoon. Internment in Linwood Cemetery,Dubuque, Iowa.     
      The funeral of Alexander Simplot , one of Dubuque's pioneer resident's , who passed
away Wednesday night at the age of 77 years , was held at Walton Chapel , Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm.
      The final resting place is Linwood Cemetery. Services were conducted by Reverend H. F. Milligan of the
First Congregational Church , who paid the deceased a glowing tribute. Reverend Mulligan reviewed the
life of Mr. Simplot , speaking of his ability as as artist and portrayal of landscape scenes , as a citizen and
early settler and as correspondent during the Civil War. Mrs. Joel Nelson accompanied by Mrs. Edith
Groff sang "Abide with me" and "Lead Kindly Light"
      The Dubuque early settlers association attended the funeral in a body. Hundreds paid a last
tribute of respect to the deceased. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. The pall bearers were
John Butler , E. H. Smith , A. Hammel , T. B. Cain , Joesph Trudell and Phillip Pier.

      Early settlers association takes action on the death of Alexander Simplot. At a meeting of the early
settlers association held in their room to take action on the death of Alexander. A member of the association , following resolutions were presented and adopted.

      Whereas , in the disposition of providence , another member of our association has been revoked from the scene of his earthly labor to join the great silent army of pioneers who have crossed the river of death before him.
Whereas , it is our sad duty to commemorate the loss we have sustained by his departure and
to express our sympathy with his relatives and personal friends. Therefore be it resolved. That in the
death of Alexander our association has lost a worthy member. His relatives a kind and indulgent father ,
and the community a highly respected citizen , who's life and reputation was an honor to himself and his
family.

      19. Charles LeClere4 Simplot (Henry Fredrick3, John Claude2, Phillipe1) was born April 24, 1840 in Dubuque, Iowa, and died December 02, 1900. He married (1) Mary Ellen Bonson March 26, 1867, daughter of Richard Bonson. She died January 06, 1892. He married (2) Mary Jane Day June 23, 1895.
