2. ROBERT³ MITCHELL (JOHN², UNKNOWN¹) was born 1714 in Derry/Londenderry Ireland, and died Abt. 1799. He married MARY ENOS Abt. 1735, daughter of RICHARD ENOS and SUSANNAH UNKNOWN. She was born August 1718 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Notes for ROBERT MITCHELL:
Bedford County was formed in 1754 from Lunenburg. The border between Lunenburg and Albemarle was the divide between the James and Roanoke River watersheds. After Bedford was formed, this border was found to be impractical, and a line was drawn in 1756 from Flood's Mountain (one of the "Appomattox River Mountains") to the mouth of Stonewall Creek on the James River and all former Albemarle land southwest of that line and south of the James was added to Bedford County's boundaries remained stable until 1781, when it was divided, and the eastern part became Campbell County. Some Bedford County lands referenced following may be found in Campbell County. In 1786, a southwestern part of Bedford County, and northern part of Henry County, were divided to form Franklin County.

History of the Mitchell Family
About the middle of the eighteenth century Robert Mitchell and his wife, whose maiden name was Mary Enos, Ennis, of Welch extraction, emigrated from the North of Ireland to America. They settled at Pequea, PA for a brief period. They then removed to Bedford Co., VA.

In the name of God Amen. I, Robert Mitchell of Bedford County and Province of Virginia, being of Perfect mind and memory do make this my Last Will and Testament first my Lawful Debt to be discharged, to my beloved wife Mary I give the Planation I now live on during her life or widowhood, at the end of either I give it to my son Samuel. Also to my wife Mary I give all my movable Estate to be disposed of at her discretion, to my son Daniel I give one hundred acres of Land where he now lives. To Robert and Stephen I Give the remainder of the Upper Tract I bought of Hilton. To Josias Campbell the lower half of the same tract. My wife, Daniel & Samuel I Lease my Executory to see the Execution of this my will which I do declare to be my last revoking all others by me heretofore made as Witness my hand Twenty Third day of April one thousand seven hundred and eighty one. His Witness: John Dowdy, James Freemen, Mark, James Davis. As a Court held for Bedford County the 25th February 1799. This last will & Testament of Robert Mitchell deceased was proved by the oath of John Dowdy & James Freeman witnesses who names are thereto subscribed & Ordered to be
recorded. And on the motion of Daniel Mitchell & Samuel Mitchell Executors therein names, who made oath thereto certificate is granted them for obtaining probate thereof in due form on giving security whereupon they together with Jesse Leftwich & Stephen Preston their security's entered into & Acknowledged their Bond in the Penalty of Five hundred dollars conditioned for the said executors due & faithful administration of said decedent's Estate & Performance of his will.
