      2. Alexander2 Cleveland (Roger1)1 was born July 1687 in Gloucestor, VA1, and died Abt. 1770 in Blue Run, Orange, VA1. He married Mildred Presley1 Abt. 17101, daughter of Peter Presley and Elizabeth Haynie. She was born 16951, and died Abt. 1770 in Blue Run, Orange, VA1.

Notes for Alexander Cleveland:
Moved to Spotsylvania County, VA, prior to Feb. 1734 and was in that part which became Orange County in 1734. Shortly thereafter he obtained by letters patent 101 acres of land in Orange County. In 1755 he sold the acreage and moved w/his family across the line to Albemarle County, VA. On 7 Feb 1733 witnessed a deed from William Hutcherson of St. Georges Parish, Spotsylvania County, to Rice Curtis. On 20 May 1735 Rice Curtis Sr. of Spotsylvania County conveyed 600 acres on both sides of "Blew Run" on Hanover County line to Thomas Chew of Orange County, St. Mark's Parish, adjoining land of John Minor and Alexander Cleveland, part of 1600-acre patent to Chew, sold to Curtis, and repurchased. Alexander of Spotsylvania County bought 100 acres from Lawrence Franklin of Orange County on same day Sep 1738 that John Cleveland bought 100 acres from Rice Curtis on branches of "Blew Run" adjoining Alexander. Witness Grace Cleveland, Alexander's daughter. On 27 May 1743 Alexander, having petitioned for a road, it was ordered that Alexander Cleaveland Jr., John Cleaveland, Benjamin Franklin, Edward Coffee, and others under Lawrence Franklin clear the road. James Madison--father of the future President--became the road overseer from Blue Run Mill Road to the main road below Col. Chew on 22 May 1749.

In 1734 rented 99 acres of land from Rice Curtis, but in March 1734, gave up lease of land from R. Curtis and obtained by letters of patent 101 acres in Orange County, VA. Lived in Orange County until 1755 when he and wife sold acreage and moved across line to Albemarle County, VA.
