His parents came from Virginia a few months before he was born to Butts County, Georgia.
Civil War - 3/1862- with Company E, 42nd Regiment in Stonewall Brigade, Stephenson Division
12/28/1862 - 4/28/1863 - 4 months was in Vicksburg, MS at Duran's Station with small pox
Was with command until the surrender at Greensboro, NC under Joseph E. Johnson 4/26/1865. He was of English decent. His parents moved to GA from VA when he was six months old.
He fought in the War Between the States in Co. E, 42nd Infantry Regiment, Georgia C.S.A.
When the war Was over he walked home from North Carolina to Newton County, GA.
4/5/2005 Email from Kay Jones Stowe to Delaine Perkins: Rufus Bennett King was in Co. E, GA 42nd Infantry, same as Wm. C. C. Jones, brother of Indiana and my GG Grandfather. Also, future father-in-law of Wm., Henry H. Edwards was in this unit. Rufus captured and paroled at Vicksburg, then surrendered at Greensboro as did my Wm. C. C. “Kit”. Henry Edwards died in Atlanta early.
