I've been working on my family tree now for almost 27 years, sometimes more avidly than others. The stumbling block is the Head of the family, John Kitchen, who came with his family into Michigan abt 1846 from Canada. He says in several censuses that he was born in Nova Scotia and then in the 1870 census he said he was born in New Jersey. I think that is probably true and maybe he was raised in Nova Scotia. I know where he lived, what land he owned, jobs he held and cemetery plots he purchased. I even have his obituary, but no death certificate. The main surnames are:KITCHEN, CLARK, HOLTZ, SIGGELKOW, SHELLMAN, FURMAN, UPDIKE,AND BRAGAW(BROUCARD). As of 2014 I have now been able to trace John and his family from Michigan backwards through Canada and before that New Jersey, and then to early Salem, Massachusetts. Other lines are traced back to Charlemagne. There is a long line of Irish -- O'Brien's the first kings of Ireland, and lots more. Contact me for more info.
