My interest in genealogy began about 6 or 7 years ago. I researched diligently, survived a couple of computer crashes, & reached a dead end. Or so I thought. I picked it back up about a year ago and I am completely amazed at what is now online compared to when I started.

My research begins with my children and tracks their ancestors back to about 1750 (so far). My father, James William Craddock, was born in Lake, West Virginia (Logan County)in 1934. His parents, Otto Waitman Craddock and Julia Frances Bias, lived in a split log cabin in a "hollow" known as Craddock Fork. It is my hope that our family can be tracked at least as far as the immigrant ancestor.

    Julia married Otto Waitman Craddock around 1925. They had 8 children together. Otto died from bilateral pneumonia in December 1938. She re-married later to "Mr. Austin".

    According to James William Craddock (Otto's son), Otto worked as a "peddler" to earn extra money for the family. His primary occupation was subsistence farming. He would walk across the mountains which had been clear cut for farming. His children would watch for him to come across the top of the mountain. He always brought them gum or candy. In December 1938, he was caught in a flood and trapped outdoors for 2 days. He was deathly ill when he finally made it home.

    Calvary Bias was Julia's Grandfather. I am not sure who the woman and boy are.

    Pearlina is one of the daughters of Otto Waitman and Julia Frances Craddock.

    This was the home of Otto and Julia Craddock. It is situated on Craddock Fork in Lake, WV. The familiy cemetery is located behind the house at the top of the mountain.

    Martha, Tina (Teeney), Pearlina, James, Wesley & Leo. The kids were extremely tired (especially the little ones) because they had just walked to Meadow Fork (several miles) to visit someone. This story comes from Tina Craddock Adkins.
