William Rufus Spurlin came to Texas between 1845 and 1850, tracking the killer of his father, James Spurlin of Hot Springs Arkansas. Finding the murderer already hung in Texas as a horse theif, W. R. settled in Jefferson, TX. From Jefferson, he ran a freight line to Austin, TX for a while before moving to Brookhaven, TX.

This home page covers the story of his descendants. Further information on his father, James Spurlin, would be appreciated, and I can be reached at the email address noted on this site.
