* The Grady and Opal Ruth (nee Everitt) Skaggs Family Page*

Updated December 15, 2001

This "page" is primarily interested in the antecedents of Grady and Opal Skaggs going back along their parents' families, John Wesley Skaggs/Minnie Beard and John Huston Everitt/Myra Webb. The Skaggs family entered Kentucky from Virginia and North Carolina in the late 1760s after exporing there from the 1750s onward. It is believed that the Beard family followed a similar pattern somewhat later. The Everitt family apparently emigrated from England and settled eventually in Bucks county, Pennsylvania in the 1770s. The Webb family was in Virginia, finally in Shenandoah County, from an early time. They settled in Shenandoah County probably either receiving from the govt. or buying from an original grantee a Revolutionary War land grant. Many Everitts remain apparently in eastern Pennsylvania today. Webbs are in Virginia, Indiana, Illinois, Arkansas, and Texas. From Kentucky, the Skaggs family spread west, primarily to Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, etc. Less is known to this page about the dispersal of the Beard family and its branches, although many remain in Green, Adair, and surrounding Kentucky Counties and Central Illinois.
