Welcome to our genealogy homepage .... og Velkommen till alle besøkender fra Norge!
We are researching the following surnames: from Norway: SKALLEVOLD, BJERKE, and WALLØE. Other: MCGAW, CUMMINGS, BLANCHARD, HOOKER, PUTNEY, EDWARDS, HOHN, and WEBB.
The first three names are of families that lived in Vestfold County in Norway. Even Bjerke was the schoolmaster of the Bjerke School in Horten and was born on Bjerke farm, Hedrum. The Walløe family originated on Hvalø, Nøtterøy. They were ship builders and merchants who lived in Tønsberg and Horten, as well as, several estates between those two towns.
The Skallevold family originates in Slagen Parish, including Skallevold farm and several others nearby. The Bjerke, Walløe and Skallevold lines have all been traced back to the early 1500's. We are constantly adding to our research which now numbers 1200 individuals in our Norwegian family history alone!
We are currently hoping to find information on the ancestors of Kristiane Hansdatter Holmene from Stokke of the Skallevold line and Jan Boveng of the Bjerke line. Jan Boveng was an intriguing character who was born in France and came to Norway where he became the master of an ironworks in Hedrum in the 1600's. We are searching for information about his history in France, why he came to Norway and more about his life and work in Hedrum.
On this side of the ocean we are looking for the ancestors of the earliest McGaw, Alexander, b.1831, and of his wife, Mary Cummings, and the ancestors of Anna Perry Blanchard who married Alexander's son, Lewis McGaw, b.1862 in Milford, MA. Also looking for the ancestors of Diena Putney who married Joseph Hooker of the Belcher branch of the descendants of John Alden and Pricilla Mullins. Both resided in Holbrook, MA. The Belcher branch is not complete with dates and locations, any leads would be appreciated. These families are not currently represented in the report section of this webpage.
The Edwards branch is a direct line to the Rev. Jonathan Edwards and includes his ancestors and descendants. It can be found on Volume #5, tree #1088 of the WFT Project. The Hohns, originally from Germany, and the Webbs were from Montrose, PA.
Any information you have on any of these lines would be appreciated and we welcome any inquiries as well.
