Notes for R
OGER CLEMENTS HANCE:
Information gathered from deeds for Roger Clements Hance:

April 16, 1851 - (Deed Book 24) R.C. Hance bought a "lot" of land that was part of a 15 acre tract broken up from Joshua Wallace's land after he died. This was the result of a law suit of claimants fighting over the land. The judge ruled the land would be sold to the highest bidders at auction. Deed does not give the size of the lot, just the number.

July 31, 1866 - (Deed Book 31) R.C. Hance buys about 9 acres of land for $120.00 from H.G. Adams and Margaret Adams. This was the old "William Miller" farm on the waters of Six Mile Creek and on the south side of Lockport Road in Henry County, Kentucky.

July 31, 1866 - R.C. Hance and his wife, Margaret, sell land to Wilson Arnold for the sum of $500.00. This land was on Six Mile Creek in Henry County, Kentucky. (Deed Book 32 - Frankfort, Kentucky).

November 22, 1866 - R.C. Hance sells Wilson Arnold more land for $1,000.00. He sells at least 149 acres plus "other bottoms".

From "The Lima News":

A LONG
And Useful Life Ended in the Death
of Richard Hance, an Old
Pioneer
_________

Last Sunday, Richard Hance, one of our oldest and most esteemed citizens, passed away at his home on Main Street, after a short illness, having reached the age of 83 years. Mr. Hance was widely known by all, it being his lot to have the happy faculty of quickly making friends and always retaining. He had filled the various relations of life, as husband, father, brother, friend and citizen, and filled them well. Who can do more?
But he is gone! Another name is stricken from the ever lessening roll of our our old settlers, and a solitary woman in the sunset of life, and a lonely home, are left to attest how sadly they will mss him. It must be so; these tender human ties can not be severed without a pang. Yet in such a death there is really no cause for grief. His life's work was done, and well done. The stern Reaper found him as a shock of corn, fully ripe for the harvest. Not for him be our tears! rather let us crown his grave with garlands; few of us will live as long or as well, and fewer yet will the Angel of Death greet with such a loving touch.
Funeral was held at the residence Tuesday afternoon and remains were interred in the Spencerville Cemetery.
