We have been entering family information (mostly as researched by other family members) into our Family Tree Maker database. To date, we have over 600 entries! Our efforts come in fits and spurts as information becomes available and we have time to do something with it.
The Skelly line runs back to about 1760 with James Skelly who was born in West Meath Ireland. He married Catherine McClean and to the best of our current knowledge they had three sons (Michael, Edward and Garrett) who emigrated to Canada. We believe Garrett returned to Ireland and we have no addtional information about him. Edward married Elizabeth's sister, Catherine, but we have no further information on that line. Vern is descended from Michael Skelly, who married Elizabeth Carey. They had eight children-- Owen, Michael, James, Bridget, Mary, Kate, Pat and Ann. Michael married Julia O'Brien (daughter of Bridget Howard) and had twelve children--Bridget, Elizabeth, Patrick, Edward, Anne Marie, Anna (Annie), Maggie, Agnes, Katherine, John (1860), James (1862), and Owen Eugene born March 1870), who moved, with some of his brothers, to northern Minnesota to log the forests. Owen E. married Agnes Almquist of Browns Valley, MN. They settled in Cohasset, MN, where Vern's father, Owen Jerome was born in 1912 (the second oldest of seven children). He married Helen Syrjamaki (daughter of Hannah Karvala) of Chisholm, MN and they had seven children, of whom Vernon Skelly is the youngest.
Stephanie's line comes from the Streblow's of Tolz, Germany. Frederick Christian Streblow (aka Joachim Christian Friedrick Streblow, born in 1837 to Joachim Streblow--b. November 23, 1794-- and Anna Luise Giese--b. June 25, 1805) and his brother Frank C. emigrated to the United States around 1854. They began farming and then joined in the 105th Illinois Volunteers and marched with Sherman to the sea. Upon returning home, Frederick C. married Harriet Elizabeth Lyon of Cass, Du Page County, IL (born 1852). They had five daughters-- Carrie Belle, Blanche Mable, Mary Rosamond, Cora Harriet and Ethel May. Cora married Mr. Samuel Wierman. She perished with a daughter in the Yokohama earthquake and fire in September 1923. In October 1888, Carrie Belle Streblow married Arthur Alfred Strong of Santa Cruz, CA, (born 1869). They had four children before his death in 1898--Arthur Frederick, Albert Edwin, Ruth Louise and Hazel Delle. I have no additional information on Arthur or Albert's lines. Ruth Louise married Harold Bellus--they had no children. Hazel Delle (born 1898) married Ercil Frank Blyler. They had four children--Ruth Marian and Dorothy Mae (twins b. 1920), Marjorie Ann, and James Arthur (b. Jan 1, 1930). In 1961, James Arthur married Consiglia Louise Rotunno of Ithaca, NY (daughter of Angelina Scaglione). They had two children--Stephanie Ann and Eric James. Stephanie married Vernon Skelly in 1990...they have four children, so far.
If you think you might fit into our tree, please let us know. This history does not include all the names in our family tree. Our oldest entry is from 1595. We have entries from many states in the U.S.--especially IL, MN, CA, NY--and from Canada, Ireland, Finland, Germany, Italy.
In spite of our sizeable database, we are still novices at this and our documentation is not archive standard :)... we are grateful for any help in figuring out this world of family history and we look forward to sharing what we have learned about our family trees.
